Urban Initiatives World Cup in Logan Square

UI Multicultural CupWHAT: Soccer fans will have to wait a year for FIFA’s World Cup, Urban Initiatives, a Chicago nonprofit is bringing the world and soccer to logan square a different way. The Urban Initiatives Multicultural Cup brings kids and families from diverse cultures together for a day of soccer, some healthy food and the chance to make new friends. Over 90 boys and girls from all corners of Chicago will gather at Haas Park in the Logan Square community on Saturday, September 21st.

Small-sided soccer games will take place along with a variety of multicultural stations highlighting art, language, dance and food from around the world. Urban Initiatives coaches and supporters representing China, Germany, Mexico, and Great Britain will share their own cultural customs and knowledge with kids and families in attendance.

WHEN: Saturday, September 21, 2013 -12:00pm – 2:00pm

WHERE: Haas Park – 2402 N. Washtenaw Ave. Chicago, IL – 60647

WHO: Over 90 Urban Initiatives Work to Play program participants from James Ward Elementary, J.W. Von Goethe Elementary and Morton School of Excellence representing the Chinatown, Logan Square and Garfield Park communities.

ABOUT URBAN INITIATIVES:
Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that runs a health and education soccer program, called the Work to Play Program, in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Urban Initiatives’ mission is to collaborate with schools, teachers and parents to boost the physical fitness, health education, academic performance and character development of children from Chicago’s underserved communities through soccer programs, field trips, and cultural outings. By actively engaging participants in our extracurricular activities at a young age, Urban Initiatives empowers youth to live a healthy lifestyle, value education, and enhance their personal and social development. Urban Initiatives takes a collaborative, whole child approach to development in order to provide children with the opportunity to reach their full potential.
