Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns endorse same-sex marriage ballot campaign

A message from Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC COO Mike Golub announcing the team’s support for Oregon’s freedom to marry initiative.

The Oregon United for Marriage initiative, which supporters are working to put on the November 2014 ballot, would make it legal for same-sex couples to marry in Oregon.

With their endorsement, the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC become the first major U.S. professional sports teams to endorse a same-sex marriage ballot campaign.

“We are proud to support Oregon United for Marriage and its efforts to secure the freedom to marry for all Oregonians next November,” Timbers and Thorns owner Merritt Paulson said in a prepared statement.
