Girls & Football SA honored National Women’s Day in South Africa on August 9th with a 5-a-side mini-match in Cape Town, organized with the generous support of¬†Fives Futbol.

As part of the day’s festivities, Girls and Football SA asked their all-girls team to share what they think is the best part about being a girl.

Okay, this film is kind of a teaser. We may just have to wait until International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th to find out what the Girls and Football SA players really have to say about being girls who play football.

Girls and Football SA is an award-winning and inspirational initiative encouraging girls in South Africa to play football as a source of empowerment, while promoting body ownership, increasing self esteem and using an education campaign and media to raise awareness on the importance of sport for women.

Awards since 2010:

– “Best Documentary” for “Can I Kick It?” at the Festival du TV et Cinema in Beirut, Lebanon.

– “Best Research” for “Football for Girls & Women: Ruled Out?” at The Interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Sports Science and Development.

– 1st Prize “Sport and Business Plan” granted by National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development, Ashoka and Nike.
