Follow the United States Deaf Soccer Women’s National Team at the Deaflympics

usadeafsoccerThe United States Deaf Soccer Women’s National Team is currently getting set to participate in the 2013 Summer Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The women play their first match on Friday, July 26th against Greece. You can watch their match (hopefully it works!) via live webstream at: http://www.sofia2013.com/live/program.

You can also follow the teams tumblr blog (http://usdeafsoccermates.tumblr.com/) and from their Twitter (@USDeafSoccerWNT) for the latest updates from Sofia.

I encourage you to take some time and follow these amazing women who work so hard both on and off the pitch. The players get little financial assistance and have had to raise almost all of the funds necessary to participate in Sofia. It’s quite telling to me that a championship team like this (2005 and 2009 Deaflympics Gold Medalists as well as 2012 Deaf World Cup Champions) continues to have to work so hard for both visibility and stable funding.
