One of the largest social activities in sport launches next week with the Fare Football People Action Weeks bringing together hundreds of thousands of people across Europe in a message against discrimination and a celebration of diversity.
Red Deporte y Cooperación is proud to be part of the Football People campaign and will be organizing a conference about ‘Racism, Discrimination and Diversity in Football’ on Friday 25th October at INEF, Madrid (Av/Martín Fierro s/n, Metro: Ciudad Universitaria). We will join over 300 groups across 41 countries all driven by the same goal: to challenge discrimination and to promote equality and inclusion across the game.
The Action Weeks, taking place from the 15 to the 29 October, bring together the top stars of football through activities at UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches along with grassroots group, communities and fans.
The weeks are headlined Football People to reflect the fact that football can transcend all barriers. Despite our social, ethnic, religious background, gender or sexuality, we are all Football People.
A member of the project team at Sport and Cooperation Network (Red Deporte y Cooperación) commented, “We are extremely pleased to be hosting a conference, aimed at discussing the issues of discrimination and diversity in football. The conference is important because only by understanding the issue, can people then take action.”
Piara Powar, the Executive Director of Fare also commented, “The Action Weeks bring people together in a unique way that represents a united stand against discrimination that will bring about positive change in society.”
